19 of the Russian's 21 titles have been won on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has endured a torrid season, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Now training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily advanced in the past month - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden trophy following the Rome competition and first on a hard court since spring of that year.

The win also indicates he has secured 21 titles at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my children at once, so to get a trophy is really nice," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my child her name, because the first title I won when my child my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his previous six finals, comprising in Halle in the past months.

The player's retrieving approach and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had caused some to wonder if his capacity to perform at the top level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete assertively, supported by an better serving game.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult opponent, securing 4 of the last five points to gain the advantage.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his first tour championship, gained dominance to create a third set.

Moutet defended four early break points in a competitive deciding set before Medvedev broke to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner earned the title with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman unable to control a return after over two and a half hours.
